When the weather is nice, the best dinner option is to have a barbecue, also known as a bbq. Whether with family, friends, or neighbors, everyone loves to barbecue…especially on a charcoal bbq! So, having your own bbq set is money well spent.
different types
There is a wide variety of bbqs. An electric barbecue grill is usually fast and easy, but you will always need a power cord, which is easy to trip over. A gas barbecue is even faster. However, just like gas fire places, it just does not compare to a real charcoal bbq grill. Yes, you need to wait longer, and yes it might be a bit hard to get the coals burning, but this is all part of the fun. With a charcoal bbq, you are more likely to get help from a friend, so you won’t be standing at the bbq by yourself all the time. A charcoal bbq is much more of a portable bbq than any other type, so you can even take it with you to a campsite if you are a camper, or to the beach if you enjoy the beach scene. Also, the smoke gives a really nice flavor to the food. In the end, a real barbecue needs charcoal. Period.
tips for use
- Always keep a bucket of sand or water within reach for safety reasons.
- Have some tools or cutlery nearby to handle the food without burning your fingers.
- Don’t put any meat on the charcoal bbq until the coals have grey ash on top of them.
- Put some oil or butter on the food before it enters the bbq charcoal grill to distribute the heat evenly.
- Ask someone to serve the food around while you keep an eye on the bbq. After a while the fire gets really hot and it is easy to burn or overcook the food.
- Besides meat, you can cook fish and vegetables on a barbecue.
- Vegetables are prepared faster than meat, so pay attention!
- For extra flavor, put some garlic or onion peels on the coals before you put the food on the bbq. This will give a nice smell to the food and fire.

other food
Some food does not need to be cooked, and is a great addition to the barbecue. You can think of basic things such as lettuce, bread and salad, but to really spice things up you can use a nice bbq sauce recipe.
So now that you know a little bit more about barbecues, put on your cool looking, made for cooking mens sunglasses and get yourself a charcoal bbq!
